Plopsaland Theme Park Belgium [2024]: Everything You Need To Know Before Visiting!
When you’re visiting Belgium with kids – and especially younger ones – the Plopsaland Theme Park Belgium is a place you don’t want to miss if you’re looking for a day full of adventure and fun.
>> Buy your discounted ticket to Plopsaland De Panne here <<
This theme park only opened its doors in 2000 when it took over the former Meli Park which brings back many nostalgic feelings to these two mums.
As it’s based on the hugely popular cartoon figures from Studio 100, it took a flying start and became a bucket list item in minutes. Nowadays they’re even working their way up to becoming the number one leading theme park for families in Europe.
Plopsaland is mostly geared towards younger children (age 4-10), but teenagers and adults will have their fair share of fun too.
We have visited the park many times as it’s our daughter’s favourite day trip. She could easily go there once a week – but that would be a bit over the top for the mummies.
Plopsaland Theme Park Belgium: Vital Information
⏰ Plopsaland De Panne Opening hours: the main park is generally open from 10h to 17.30h.
But times may differ depending on the season and day of the week with some weekend days staying open as late as 22.30h. Always check the website to see the actual information.

The different Plopsa Parks
Plopsaland De Panne (BE)
The first and main theme park from the Plopsa cooperation.
It’s the one generally meant when people are talking about Plopsaland.
The park is big enough to spend a full day and has a variety of attractions both for young kids and older ones/teenagers.

There’s a small indoor area (Mayaland), but the main attractions can be found outdoors.
🏨 As of 2023, it’s possible to stay at the Plopsa Hotel next door during your visit (use the discount code LENTE and receive a 15% discount on your stay).
🎟 A regular ticket costs €48.50 but check here if there are discounts available!. (#AffiliateLink)
Plopsa Coo (BE)
A very small attraction park that can be found in the Belgian Ardennes.
It is not suitable to spend an entire day, but great in combination with the famous waterfalls of Coo.
Apart from 1 or 2 more thrilling attractions, Plopsa Coo is mostly geared toward smaller children.
Be aware that the park is only open from April to November during the weekend but every day during the summer holidays.
🎟 A regular ticket to the park costs €28.50 if you buy it at the gate or check here if there are discounts available!. (#AffiliateLink)
Plopsa Indoor Hasselt (BE)
A small theme park with about 25 attractions. Most of them can be found indoors, but there are a couple outside as well.
Plopsa Indoor Hasselt is definitely geared toward young children, in fact, it’s more of a mix between a theme park and a large indoor playground. It is one of the best places to visit in Hasselt with kids.
🎟 A regular ticket costs €25.50 if you buy it at the park or check here if there are discounts available! (#AffiliateLink)
Plopsa Indoor Coevoorden (NL)
Another indoor playground in the Plopsa theme is this one in The Netherlands.
This park is almost identical to Plopsa Indoor Hasselt and therefore most suitable for younger children.
💰 The same prices apply, so €25.50 if you buy directly through Plopsa or check here if there are discounts available! (#AffiliateLink)
Plopsa Holiday Park Pfalz (DE)
Definitely the second largest park in the series and suitable both for small kids and tweens/teens.
Many of the smaller attractions are similar to the ones in Plopsaland De Panne, but there are a couple of more exciting rollercoasters that are unique.
💰 Regular tickets cost €48.50 online and at the entrance, but check here if there are discounts available! (#AffiliateLink)
Plopsa Station Antwerp (BE)
In late 2021 the Studio 100 company opened a new Plopsa theme park. This time inside the Antwerp Central Station (voted one of the most beautiful in the world!).
This indoor theme park covers several floors and is not only suitable for the youngest among us. However, we would recommend visiting with kids <12 years old, as adrenaline-rushing rollercoasters are missing.
🎟 A regular ticket costs €25,50, but check here if there are discounts available! (#AffiliateLink)
Plopsaqua De Panne (BE)
This is the main aqua park in the Plopsa niche.
It’s located right next door to Plopsaland De Panne, so you could easily make this a 2-day trip and visit each park on a separate day.
With six different slides, a wave pool, a white water river and different play areas for all ages, you could easily spend a half or even a full day here.
💰 Buy your ticket to Plopsaqua De Panne for €25.50 or check here if there are discounts available!(#AffiliateLink)
Plopsaqua Landen-Hanuit (BE)
A slightly smaller aqua park than Plopsaqua De Panne, but with many similar attractions.
You’ll probably only want to spend a half-day here.
🎟 Buy your ticket to Plopsaqua Landen-Hanuit for €23.50 or check here if there are discounts available! (#AffiliateLink)
Plopsaland, De Panne Review
I’ll discuss the park walking in a counter-clockwise direction, which is the route we usually end up taking (and many people with us). Each zone is dedicated to a certain figure/cartoon from the Studio 100 network.
Dorpsplein

When you first enter the park, Het Dorpsplein is where you’ll find yourself. There are no real attractions here yet, but you can find lots of shops, toilets, the concert area, and Dancing Fountains for your kids to play in when the weather is hot enough.
Mayaland
On Het Dorpsplein, you’ll find the entry to Mayaland. This indoor playground is a great place for younger kids with plenty of rides, a small and large playground, and a massive ball bath that is the end stop of a huge treehouse slide.
As this zone is inspired by Maya The Bee, a cartoon about a bee and her friends going out on adventures, you won’t be surprised to see lots of bees and flowers as decorations.
You can also find the main restaurant here, which is great since you can keep an eye on your playing kids.
Big & Betsy
Turn right on Het Dorpsplein and you’ll walk towards the Big & Betsy zone. This cartoon about a girl and a talking pig opened doors to create a farm theme.
This is definitely the place to go with small children and when you want to slow down for a bit.
All rides are gentle and there are farm animals to pet.
Bumba’s Circus
Bumba is a popular cartoon that toddlers can’t seem to get enough from.
It’s a pretty small zone with one ride (a gentle indoor boat trip – ironically about Plop, another popular Studio 100 figure) and a playground for little ones.

Kermisplein
Next door to Bumba’s Circus, you’ll find Het Kermisplein (The Fair).
This zone is based on Samson & Gert, a cartoon about a talking dog and its owner that was hugely popular in the 1990s and led to the creation of Studio 100 by Gert Verhulst – that’s right, the actor from Samson & Gert.
In 2020, the show got a modern twist and is now known as Samson & Marie, with Marie being Gert’s real-life daughter.
You’ll find many smaller but fun attractions here and a ‘frietkot’ (French fries & fried snacks restaurant).
Wickieland
The Viking-themed Wickieland is a great mix of attractions for younger children and the first action-filled ride. It borders the great lake that you can find in the park – which is a must, obviously, with all the Viking decorations.
Princessia
Turning to the left after Wickieland and after crossing the bridge, you’ll head into the fairytale feeling of Princessia.
A large castle is the main attraction in this zone, with a couple of smaller rides in and around it. You can also find the fanciest restaurant of Plopsaland inside this castle.
Nachtwacht
The small Nachtwacht Zone is home to one of the most exciting attractions in Plopsaland and the only you’ll never convince me to ride! This Wienerwalz carousel goes up to a whopping 70 metres high. Yikes!
The setting comes from the popular show Nachtwacht that caters to older children and tweens.
De wereld van Kaatje (World of Kaatje)
Another favourite of the little one’s is Kaatje, a show about a happy and funny girl with her best friends Victor, the inventor and Kamiel, the dragon.
This section of the park is pretty fun with an exciting rollercoaster that’s suitable for young kids (our daughter went in for the first time at age 3,5!) and a boat ride featuring Kaatje who’s looking for her duck.
K3-zone
K3 is much more than just another cartoon from the network. In fact, it’s one of the most well-known bands in Belgium, creating music specifically for kids (they’re super popular with young girls age 4 and up).
However, they only got a really small section of the park with just one (but really fun) rollercoaster.
Mega Mindy zone
Action hero Mega Mindy and her sidekick Mega Toby feature in another small zone of the park with a couple of smaller but still exciting attractions.
At this point, you can choose to make your way towards Plop’s Garden and the Pirate Zone or follow along to the Castle Courtyard.
Kasteelplein
The Courtyard features a large castle with a rollercoaster that crosses many other attractions. You can find some more snack stands, a shop and the recently opened (2020) DinoSplash, a dinosaur-themed water attraction!
Heidiland
The small Heidiland is home to the large wooden rollercoaster you can see from the parking lot. It’s one of the largest rides in the park and well worth a stop if you have older children or if you’re visiting without kids.
Ploptuin (Garden of Plop)
The Plop-cartoon is another one of the earliest figures from the network and features the adventures of a gnome named Plop and his friends. You won’t be surprised to see a lot of mushrooms around.

In Plop’s Garden, you can find the most fun attractions for the little ones. Especially the ducks and the frogs feel like real rides, while still being more than gentle enough to accommodate toddlers and preschoolers.
You can also find another large (fast food) restaurant in the main mushroom and a huge playground to let the kids run loose.
Pirate Zone
In the middle of the park, you can find the Pirate Zone. You can reach it from several points like Princessia and Plop’s Garden.
It’s situated on top of the great lake, so you won’t be surprised to find a couple of water attractions here and many bridges to cross.
It’s the perfect place for action seekers with the Pirate Boat (a must in just about any theme park) and the SuperSplash but also for smaller kids looking for a thrilling ride.
Storm op Zee (Storm at Sea) is our absolute favourite attraction in the whole park. It allows younger kids but is more than exciting enough to even entertain adults a lot. And just when you think it’s over, it starts all over again but backwards!
There’s a grill restaurant in this zone and you can find a (smaller) playground as well.
Plopsaland Tickets price & promotions
If you’re all up for visiting De Panne Plopsaland, you’re probably wondering about the price.
At this moment, if you buy directly at the gate (check beforehand to see if this is possible with the current Covid-19 rules!) or online through the Plopsaland website, you’ll pay €48.50 if you are 1m or taller.
👦🏼👧🏽 Kids between 85 and 99cm pay a discounted price of €17.99 and children under 85cm can enter for free.
👴🏻👩🏻🦽There are discounted tickets available for seniors age 70+ (€17.99) and disabled guests (€43.50) (the latter only at the gate).
It’s not possible to park in the surrounding area as this is for inhabitants only.
🅿️ If you’re coming by car, a parking ticket will cost you €15.
Other options are the train (the train station is a couple of steps away) and the tram (that goes all the way along the coast from Adinkerke to Knokke).
🎡 Plopsaland De Panne also offers 2 special rates to visitors:
- Afternoon ticket: if you arrive 3 hours before closing time (or at 17h on nocturnes), you get access for €38,50.
- Wednesday ticket: one-time-only ticket for a Wednesday outside of the school holidays. This ticket only costs €29,10.
However, the cheapest way to visit Plopsa park De Panne Belgium in 2024 is to check here if there are discounts available! (#AffiliateLink)
Keep in mind that your offered price will need to be confirmed by email AND it’s only valid on the day of your choice!
➡️ In case there aren’t any promotions, the best alternative is to buy a Plopsaland De Panne promo ticket 2024 on Tiqets.com before you visit.
At the time of publishing, instead of €48.50, you can buy this discounted Plopsaland ticket for €43. Tiqets.com doesn’t sell any other discounted tickets such as for kids or seniors and neither can you buy a parking ticket.
It’s not an overly large saving, but you’re better off buying online tickets in advance (or you might be even obliged to during Covid-times) and any discount is better than none!
We always use Tiqets to buy discounted entrees for attractions and museums in Belgium.
You can also find tickets to the other Plopsa parks both in Belgium and the neighbouring countries.
Plopsaland Express Pass
💡 As of 2023, you can buy an additional Express Pass for Plopsaland De Panne that will allow you instant access in up to 9 rides.
💰 This pass costs €35 and you can buy it online or at the entrance.
Especially during the summer holidays, the waiting lines get pretty long. As we are homeschoolers, we never go during these busy times, but my brother-in-law and his family just went in July and they had to wait for 60-90 minutes at nearly every big/popular attraction.
If your budget allows it, the Express Pass will save you lots of time!

Plopsaland Restaurants & Food
When you’re spending an entire day in a Plopsa Park Belgium, you’re sure to become hungry at a certain point.
No need to worry, there are plenty of restaurants scattered across the park and many more food carts for snacking along the way.
🍗 The main restaurants are:
- Mr. Spaghetti/Maya’s restaurant: the main restaurant at the entry of the park that is open on every occasion. There’s plenty to choose from ranging from spaghetti (ha! surprise!) over salads, chicken, wok and vol-au-vent. You can find this place on Het Dorpsplein and in Mayaland (2 sides of the same restaurant).
- Fred Kroket: this fastfood restaurants serves the standard frituur-food (chips and fried snacks). This one is also always open. You can find this place on Het Kermisplein
- Viking Grill: a grill restaurant serving meat and fish in a Viking setting. Only open during the peak season. You can find this restaurant at Wickieland.
- Princessia restaurant: if you’d like to eat inside the Princessia castle, you have to make a reservation when you arrive into the park. The restaurant serves classical meals in a fancy setting. You can find it in the Princessia zone.
- Pizza Hut: there’s an original Pizza Hut restaurant in the Heidi section of the park.
- Plop Hamburger restaurant: a fast-food restaurant in the Garden of Plop. Let your kids play in the playground when you’re done eating.
- Pirate’s Grill: another grill restaurant with (only) an outside sitting area. You can find great steaks, crispy salads and yummy desserts. You’ll obviously find this restaurant in the Pirate Zone
Apart from fast and other food, there are also plenty of snacks to choose from in the park. Choose savoury dishes like hot dogs and chips or sweet things such as churros, waffles, ice cream or poffertjes.
Plopsaland Shops
The Studio 100 merchandise is plentiful and very popular in Belgium and around. All the kids want toys, clothes and school stuff with their favourite cartoon characters.
Plopsaland theme park De Panne is the best place to see them all (although you can find a smaller selection in most toy and large grocery stores). There are many smaller shops scattered throughout the park, but the largest one can be found at the entrance (The Plopsa Shop).
Plopsaland App
This very useful app is a must when visiting Plopsaland. It will give you practical information when visiting the park. Unfortunately, it’s only available in Dutch and French (for now).
📲 In short, this app allows you to:
- navigate easily through the park
- see the starting hours of shows
- get a push notification when your selected show is about to begin
- see the real-life waiting time of any attraction
- filter the attractions based on the height of your child
- filter the attractions based on your favourite figure
- filter the attractions based on the type of ride
- see the hours of meet & greets
📲 You can download the Plopsa App here: App Store | Google Play Store
Visiting Plopsaland with kids
Plopsaland De Panne is a wonderful park to visit with kids and definitely one of the best European theme parks for families, especially those with smaller children.
🧒🏼 Younger children will be measured at the entrance and will get a stamp on their hand depending on their height ( -85cm | 85-99cm | 1m+).
At many attractions, they will be measured again as different rides have different height restrictions.
Even toddlers under 85 cm will find tons of things to do, so you shouldn’t miss out on Plopsaland De Panne out of fear your kid will miss out.
Of course, the older they get, the more there is to do and the more exciting the attractions get.
The Plopsa Company really nails down their public with attractions that cater to just about any age.
As I said above, young kids will find rides suitable for their age, while teenagers and adults will have a blast on the bigger adrenaline-kicking roller coasters.
The best attractions for kids <85 cm
For the smallest children, there aren’t too many real attractions they can go on but thanks to the many playgrounds (both in and outdoor) and the beautiful setting, they will have a wonderful time anyway!

- Balloon race: As I said, there aren’t many but this is a great one if your little kid would like to go onto a real ride. It goes pretty fast and adults will love this too! [Kermisplein, supervised <120 cm]
- Carousel: Another great choice is the charming double-decker carousel. Your child gets to sit on one of the many horses or can pick a carriage. [Kermisplein, supervised <100cm]
- The Ducks: a small attraction with moving ducks that don’t go too slow but not overly fast either. Specifically meant for smaller kids. [De tuin van Plop, supervised <100 cm]
- The Frogs: a great and pretty exciting attraction – even adults end up giggling due to the butterflies in their bellies when riding in the frogs. [De tuin van Plop, supervised <100 cm]
- The Rabbits: hop on the back of a rabbit and let it carry you around through the field. [De tuin van Plop, supervised <100 cm]
- The tractors: hop into a tractor and make your way through the field full of (real!) farm animals. [Big & Betsy, supervised < 120 cm]
- Plop’s Woods: this relaxing indoor boat ride brings you through beautiful gnome settings. [Bumba’s Circus, supervised < 120 cm]
The best attractions for kids between 85-95 cm

- Balloon race: Even though there are more rides available for kids >85 cm, this one is still a pretty great attraction. It goes pretty fast and adults will love this too! [Kermisplein, supervised <120 cm]
- The fire brigade: try to extinguish the fire by shooting water at the flames. [Kermisplein, supervised 85-100 cm]
- The chute: take a bag, climb the stairs and slide down from one of the longest chutes in the country. [Mayaland, supervised 85-100 cm]
- The Frogs: a great and pretty exciting attraction – even adults end up giggling due to the butterflies in their bellies when riding in the frogs. [De tuin van Plop, supervised <100 cm]
- The Coffee Cups: an exciting ride in a spinning cup. Not for those who get seasick easily! Also, more than a little fun for accompanying adults. [Princessia, supervised 85-120 cm]
- The Flying Bikes: get on and start peddling. The harder you bike, the higher you get! [Mega Mindy, supervised 85-120 cm]
- Plop’s Woods: this relaxing indoor boat ride brings you through beautiful gnome settings. [Bumba’s Circus, supervised < 120 cm]
- Storm at Sea: our favourite attraction in the whole park. Even quite small kids are allowed, but adults will have just as much fun! [Pirate zone, supervised 85-120 cm]
The best attractions for kids >96 cm
- Dinosplash: in this new [2020] water attraction, you’re surrounded by moving dinosaurs and volcanos. Don’t forget to bring dry clothes though! [Kasteelplein, supervised 100-140 cm]
- Flowery merry-go-around: although we don’t understand why kids >85 cm aren’t allowed, this is one of our favourite attractions. Move your flower up and down to avoid the water spurts. [Mayaland, supervised 96-120 cm]
- The Dragon: a non-upside down rollercoaster that rides through a castle. [Kasteelplein, supervised 96-120 cm]
- The Swinging Tree: if you’re up for a toned-down version of The Big Wave, head over to this one. [Mayaland, supervised 96-120 cm]
- The Falling Tower: a high sunflower that lets you drop almost all the way to the floor. If you’re looking for exciting but not heart-stopping, this is a great one! For those afraid of heights: it still gets pretty scary, but it’s doable! [Mayaland, supervised 96-120 cm]
- K3 Roller Skater: a real roller coaster – a bright pink one at that – that goes pretty fast! Definitely exciting and fun for parents as well. [K3, supervised 90-120 cm]
- Storm at Sea: our favourite attraction in the whole park. Even quite small kids are allowed, but adults will have just as much fun! [Pirate zone, supervised 85-120 cm]
- Victor’s Race: another superfast roller coaster. The waiting line goes pretty fast as it’s a very long cart. [De wereld van Kaatje, supervised 90-120 cm]
The best attractions for thrill-seekers
- The Ride to Happiness by Tomorrowland: the first extreme spinning roller coaster in Europe that’s due to open in the summer of 2023. With 5 times upside down, cars that rotate freely, a top point of 35 meters and a top speed of 90 km/h, this one isn’t for the scaredy-cats! The world-famous festival Tomorrowland created an exclusive soundtrack to accompany you on the ride. [>130 cm]
- Nachtwacht-flyer: how do you make a Wienerwaltz carousel more extreme? Well, let’s put it up 70m in the air! With guaranteed glorious views over the area, but not for those afraid of heights. [Supervised 120-140 cm]
- Anubis, the ride: one of the most exciting roller coasters in the park with a top speed of 90 km/h and a top point of 34 meters. [Supervised 125-140 cm]
- The Big Wave: no rollercoaster, but a disk that spins around while moving from one side to the other. It’s a pretty intense experience! [Wickieland, >120 cm]
- Heidi, the ride: an exciting ride on a wooden roller coaster that goes up to 70 km/h. [Heidiland, supervised 120-140 cm]
- SuperSplash: a water attraction that drops you from a height of 30 meters at 70 km/h! [Pirate zone, supervised 96-120 cm]
When to visit Plopsaland De Panne Belgium?
💡 As of 2023, you can visit Plopsaland throughout the entire year.
On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays outside of the peak season and school holidays only the indoor Mayaland remains open (for which you can buy separate tickets).
Each season has its charm, from the added scariness around Halloween and the winter decorations during the Christmas Holidays to the possibility to enjoy water attractions in summer.
If you go in autumn or winter, the weather can get pretty bad. Definitely bring warm clothes and an umbrella.
On the other hand, summer can get really hot (with temperatures sometimes going up to 40 degrees). In that case, bring enough sunscreen and sun protection for your head, especially as this is the summer school holiday and the lines will be long.
How many days do you need to visit Plopsaland De Panne?
The park is big, but it’s not overly huge either. You can do most attractions in one long day if it’s not too busy.
🏨 With the arrival of the new Plopsa Hotel next door, chances are you might want to spend two days at the park. This will allow you a much more relaxed visit, especially if you wish to see a show or two in between.
When you book a night at the hotel, your entry tickets to the parks are included in the price.
🛝 For regular visitors, there are no combo tickets available, so you’ll have to buy separate entry tickets for both days (#AffiliateLink). Through Tiqets you can buy a combination ticket for Plopsaland and Plopsaqua. (#AffiliateLink)

Other options
There are many hotels and Bed & Breakfasts in De Panne and other nearby areas. Another option is to stay further along the coast, in Ostend for example.
Below, I’ve listed three options that would be great, especially when travelling with kids.
Ara Dune Hotel
There are hardly any true budget options if you’d like to stay close to the park. A great option for around €100 is Ara Dune Hotel.
With an indoor children’s playground, this is a fun place to stay with kids. They have plenty of rooms available with a couple of family rooms as well. Breakfast is available but not included in the price
B&B Logies Charles Cabour
For larger families, B&B Logies Charles Cabour is an excellent choice. They have a couple of rooms that are suitable for 5+ persons, one of them even going up to 8 people. An excellent breakfast is included.
B&B Armalot
If you’re looking for a mid-range hotel with a luxury feeling close to Plopsaland De Panne, B&B Armalot is a wonderful choice. This brand new building has large windows and a unique but modern interior.
The breakfast buffet is glorious. The B&B has three rooms available, including one family room.

We absolutely love Plopsaland and will visit again soon!
Plopsaland De Panne is definitely geared towards families and younger children, but they don’t forget about their other guests either.
If you’re visiting with teenagers or as an adult, expect to find a decent amount of adrenaline-rushing rides. And if you happen to go out of the peak season, you might be able to get on them again and again!
BELGIUM TRAVEL PLANNING RESOURCES
Getting to Belgium: Fly into one of the main international airports: Brussels Airport (BRU) or Charleroi Brussels South Airport (CRL). Take an international train to Brussels South Station. Or take a ferry to Dover or The Netherlands, then drive or take the train to Belgium.
Getting Around: For the major destinations, the train is by far the best option. You can book your train tickets here. If you’d like to visit smaller places, the most convenient way would be to rent a car. We always use Discover cars, they compare all the rental companies and give you the best rates.
Accommodation: Booking.com is the most popular accommodation platform in Belgium. It’s what I use every single time.
Guided tours: Use Get Your Guide or Viator to find fun tours in Brussels, Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp. Or Guruwalk to find free walking tours in multiple destinations.
If this helped you plan your adventure, a coffee would go a long way in fueling my next guide! 😉
