COVID-19 IN BELGIUM
While the Coronavirus Covid-19 was declared a global pandemic on the 11th of March 2020 by the World Health Organization, Europe was one of the first continents where the virus stroke hard. And Belgium, with lots of people passing through every day, found itself in the epicentre pretty soon.
The situation today (5/1/2021)
Where the situation in Europe has turned black again with many countries going back into full lockdown, Belgium is still in code red with many restrictions but not a complete lockdown.
At the moment:
- you CAN go out wherever you want, however, masks are often obliged (check regulations of the separate towns and cities)
- you CAN stay at hotels (with breakfast served in the room)
- you CAN visit museums, playgrounds, swimming pools, libraries, religious buildings
- you CAN use public transport (with masks!)
- you CANNOT eat out at a restaurant or go to a cafe (many restaurants offer take-out services though!)
- you CANNOT meet outside with more than 4 people over 12yo (with masks & distance)
- you CANNOT meet inside, except with your ‘cuddle contact’ (1 person outside of your bubble where you don’t need to keep the 1,5m distance)
- you CANNOT go to cinemas, theatres, concerts, amusement parks, zoos, wellness
- you CANNOT go to a sports event
- you CANNOT go outside between 0.00h-5.00h
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: All travellers (>12yo) arriving or transiting in Belgium need to give proof of a negative Covid test that is no older than 72 hours. Passengers coming from a red zone will need to quarantine for 7 days (with a test on day 1 + day 7).
- All travellers coming to Belgium need to fill in this document UNLESS you’re not coming by plane or boat and you’ve only been abroad for max 48h or you’re only staying in Belgium for max 48h.
